A trained health economist, his research focuses on evaluating complex health care interventions, specializing in the improvement of quality of care. In most of his previous work he employed advanced econometric techniques to large administrative person-level health datasets, with output being published in key health economics and policy journals, including Health Economics, BMJ Quality & Safety and Medical Care. His recent projects include investigating the impact of hospital bed occupancy rates on hospital behaviour and quality of care, and the development of a comparison framework for employed fiscal and pricing policies across OECD countries. His future research interest includes a shift towards understanding and strengthening healthcare systems in developing countries.
For his PhD at Imperial College London, Rocco was awarded a 3-year scholarship by the National Institute for Health Research. He also holds a masters in Health Economics from the University of York.
